About WCCA - Curriculum

West County Christian Academy provides students with a superior education using the A Beka Book curriculum. The A Beka Book approach to Christian education keeps learning lively, interesting, and memorable. Materials reflect sensible theory that is firmly anchored to practicality. Christian schools throughout the nation recognize that A Beka Book sets the standard of excellence in the publishing of textbooks and other materials for Christian schools. Our Bible curriculum is from Bob Jones University Press, whose mission is to provide teachers and students superb Christ-centered resources for education, edification, and evangelism.

Reading

Reading Considered a major strength of the school, our reading curriculum produces early and confident readers through a strong phonics based method. The children enjoy a wide variety of reading materials including quality literature written by well-known authors, autobiographies of Christian leaders, and interesting short stories reinforcing good values. This program has been effective over the years in producing outstanding readers and competent spellers. Small classes allow for individual attention and encouragement from the teacher.

Bible

Children not only learn weekly Bible verses, but are carefully taught the meaning and application of the verses. Students learn the Bible in age-appropriate increments, culminating with a solid foundation of Scriptures upon graduation. Bible study is enhanced through practical application of godly character traits, Christlike compassion, and Christian values. Students attend a weekly chapel service on Wednesdays. Bible

Science and Mathematics

Science and mathematics are also high priorities at WCCA. We believe strong science and math skills are essential for the future of all children. Our science and math programs are continually evaluated and enhanced to maintain the best educational opportunity in these critical subjects.

Science and Math

Our math curriculum offers a unique blend of solid math concepts combined with daily repetition in every lesson for the entire year. Feedback from student alumni has proven that this system effectively equipped them for higher math courses by providing solid foundational skills.

Our science curriculum is varied—designed to be interesting and challenging for the young scientist. We encourage children to develop their interest in science through special projects and assignments. Our annual Project Fair is a wonderful opportunity for each child to work independently on a project and accompanying report. At the Fair, they enjoy the experience of demonstrating their project and take pride in their presentation.

History and Geography

Using successful and interesting Christian curriculum, our social studies program is designed to present God as the center of our history and our future. Our teachers present the world from a Biblical perspective—recognizing the sovereign God as Creator. Particularly in American History, our children learn of the Christian roots of our country and our spiritual heritage. History

Music and Art

Music and Art Music and Art are two popular programs at WCCA for children and their parents. Music theory is taught, in addition to singing from a wide variety of music. Throughout the year, the children prepare special music and/or drama presentations for school events. Parents and extended families always enjoy these presentations, and the children develop poise, confidence, and self-esteem while enjoying the spotlight. A true advantage of the size of our school is the opportunity for each child to participate in every program. No one is left out.

Computers

Computer literacy is another essential element of a child's education. Without solid computer skills, children are at a disadvantage. WCCA provides opportunities for children to use and become familiar with state-of-the-art computer systems and practical software applications. We have recently been named a proud recipient of a grant for new computers. Computers

Physical Education

Sport Physical Education sessions include anything from calisthenics to team or individual sports. Our gymnasium provides excellent facilities for indoor activities, but outside exercise is also regularly planned.

Spanish

Students in all grades receive Spanish instruction as a second language and reinforce their learning through games, role-playing, conversation, and special events like Spanish food day. Spanish
